I don't understand what Joe Dumars and the Detroit Pistons are thinking. To watch the trade deadline dwindle away with nothing to show other than a side ways move to the clips, was maddening. Its almost as if this organization thinks its doing its fans a favor by being in the playoff race.
As I've said in previous posts, worst case scenario would be trading for draft picks. Don't tell me you couldn't find a team willing to take Sheed for other expiring contracts and a fist rounder. Joe D. is loyal to a fault. Even if Dumars thinks he can resign Wallace in the off season, he'll still have his chance. Besides, if this is the plan, why not make it happen before the deadline. Then you can better plan your future.
I understand this Detroit team is “built for the playoffs,” but its obvious to this Pistons fan, no moves by the deadline means no post season. At least not one worth watching. If they make the playoffs they'll most likely get knocked out in the first round by Atlanta or Miami. If they miraculously slip past to the second round, they'll be facing the likes of ether Boston, Cleveland or Orlando. If by the grace of God they get enough lucky breaks to squeeze by Orlando, there is no way in Hyades they make it to the finals. I mean, is that not what Dumars preached to us all last summer?
So, if you were unable to snag a Stoudemire type player, you make a go at someone els. Maybe you send Sheed and a draft pick to New York for Al Harrington, David Lee and Nate Robinson. This way the Knicks get something for Lee and Robinson, and have the best shot at LaBron and Bosh. And you wouldn't have to make a move in the off season besides resigning Lee, yet still have cash to play with in the sweepstakes of 2010. I would feel much better going into the playoffs with Stuckey, AI, Price, Lee and Dice with Rip, J-Max and Harrington off the bench. Plus, I think this team would look pretty sexy to a center like Okur, Ming or Newitski, who just want to win a championship.
What do you think?
P.S. Puppet Boy,
RASHEED WALLACE IS NOT CLUCH! Please stop putting the ball in his hands at the end of close games. This isn't rocket science.
