Rip's value is very low right now given his contract, age, and league wide perception that he's unhappy & expendable do to the Flash Gordon pick-up. So if Rip shows off his versatility as a SG/SF swing man along w/ his ability to still play at a high level, he will be MUCH more valuable by the deadline. Also keep in mind all the expiring contracts that will be bait in a trade come February. Big Ben will most likely be a one year contract along w/ a PG signing (Jeremy Pargo or a Vet). Include Brown & Bymun, suddenly Detroit becomes a valuable trade partner. Plus you have to assume there will be more quality players available in a scramble to make one more move before the summer of 2010, save $ or snag that one guy who gets you over the proverbial hump

Poverty stricken Piston fans were still baffled by yet another night of head scratching picks.


Too thin, too short and too...who in gods name is this white kid from Sweden? Why didn't we move up to get Earl Clark? Why didn't we pick up Ty Lawson? Why won't Joe just listen to us fans for once?


Well, if this week's Summer League performances are any indication of how these three young forwards will play in the NBA, the future is bright and Joe D has pulled off the impossible. He found three diamonds in the rough of a weak draft.


It's obvious to this Detroit fan that the new threesome has gelled, proving that Mr. Dumars was a draft hero - not a zero.

Believe it or not, there are some in the Detroit Pistons organization that feel Kwame can be a consistent starter in this league. Some believe if given a run at 30 plus minutes, Brown will become a walking double-double. Add the ability to block shots with the best of them and you have...Kwame Brown?


Obviously, the Pistons will make a move for another big man before the start of next season. However, barring a move that will bring in a true center that can rebound, block and run the floor more efficiently than Brown, you can expect to see all kinds of Kwame.

The next month or so is going to be a very exciting time for Detroit Pistons fans. Between the draft, free agency and possible trade scenarios, we'll have our interest piqued and our hopes high. But my attention has shifted to the coaching staff.


After hearing the unfortunate post-season news that Puppet Boy (also known as Coach Curry) will be staying, my dreams of having a competent head coach next season faded. But there is hope yet.


It was reported today that the Detroit Piston Assistant Coach Dave Cowens would no longer be on the staff. Instead, he will become a member of Joe D's scouting team.


Is it me, or does this strike you as coincidental? Bill Laimbeer announces he's an NBA coaching free agent just days ago - and BAM - we have an opening.

With the NBA Draft rapidly approaching, my anxiety increases. I ponder Joe D. actually using his #15 pick on a drafty (I know, crazy right?). Worse still, he trades up to snag a guy that might possibly help his Detroit club in the future (ensuring a cap hit of $2-$4 million out of the gate).


Will we remember next week's draft as the day Dumars dug a shallow franchise grave?


We must, first and foremost, ensure proven talent. To make this happen, the Pistons will need every penny possible. If it's between signing one accomplished star or two, would you take the draft gamble?

       I grew up in the 80's watching the the greats battle it out on the
hardwood. It was a time of true parity and drama. As I became more and
more enamored by the perennial mach-ups, I remember thinking, wow, I
can't wait to witness the future talent that will inevitably surpass
the now.
Of course at the time, it would have sounded more like,  “pretty
soon... um... those guys... um... aren't like... gonna be as good
as... um... the guys that are gonna be... um... playing pretty soon ya
know.”
Yes, I was hyper and mentally challenged. Much like now. I was also
wrong. They never got better.
Yeah, we had the Michael Jordan era. But were was the competition?

With around $20 mil., valuable trade assets and a league focused on shedding salary (ether to get under the cap or get ready for 2010), it will be fun to play GM.

Personally, I would scratch the draft this year and focus on getting proven players with those picks. Also, as bad as we all want Chris Bosh, be careful how much you give up. Remember Grant Hill? Toronto must get something back before it's too late, and they'll get less if they don't deal before next season starts.

Here is a scenario I would love to see unfold, with a little (ok, a lot of) luck...

TRADE:

-T. Prince, A. Johnson & #15 pick to Toronto for C. Bosh

-R. Hamilton & second round pick to Golden State for M. Ellis & A. Randolph
