Pistons, Wolverines, A's: Welcome to My Blog

Growing up, I was hooked into sports by two things: The Fab Five at Michigan and Barry Bonds. Of course, we all know how that worked out. The Fab Five apparently never existed, and Barry ... well, you know his story.

You'd think then, that I'd be a cynical, bitter curmudgeon who can't enjoy sports without a critical eye. But as Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy would say: “That’s not true!”

In fact, I’m a regular Pollyanna when it comes to my sports teams. Every year I think Michigan football is going to win a national title, the Pistons are going to win an NBA championship and the Oakland A's are actually going to hold onto their talented, young players. I even foolishly think each winter that this will be the year the Michigan hoops team finally makes it back to the NCAA Tournament. I know, I know. It’s pitiful.

Having spent the last five years of my life as a sports reporter, you might think I could be more objective about these things. My journalism professors must be disgusted with me right now. Then again, I’ve never covered my own teams, so I’ve never been obligated to be objective about them.

Alas, that has now changed. As the blogger baton has finally been passed on to me, I feel it is my duty to provide fair, honest -- and when necessary, critical -- analysis of everything Maize and Blue, Green and Gold, and Red, White and Blue.

I promise to provide regular content on Bay Area and Michigan sports, linking the latest news and updates to my site. But this blog won’t be limited to teams of which I’m a fan. I’ll also delve into other relevant issues in the sports world. And with a background covering high school sports, I may even occasionally dip into the “overinvolved Soccer Mom” horror story.

I appreciate feedback and am always happy to give the readers what they want.
